As the Chief Strategy Officer of Public Media Group (PMG), Marc is responsible for identifying and developing strategic initiatives, partnerships and business opportunities that expand the Public Media Group’s partnerships, services, and impact.
Hand is also the CEO and founder of the Public Media Venture Group. The PMVG consists of 31 public media entities that operate 118 stations that reach over 237 million people. The PMVG is focused on the television industry transition to the Next Gen TV operating platform and to a range of other technology and business opportunities that enhance the local services of public media.
Prior to joining PMG, Hand co-founded the Public Media Company in 2001 and served as PMC’s CEO until 2019. Public Media Company is a national nonprofit strategic consulting firm that fosters public media growth, with a focus on creating strategic public media alliances and partnerships. Under Hand’s leadership of PMC, the organization worked with over 300 public media entities and completed acquisitions and financings valued at over $350 million.
Hand led Public Media Company’s work to support public television stations in planning for the FCC spectrum auction, as well as the ATSC 3.0 digital television technology standard rollout which led to the founding of the Public Media Venture Group.
Hand’s media experience of more than 30 years includes serving as Managing Partner and co-owner of a group of commercial radio stations in Colorado, and as an associate with two national media brokerage firms representing commercial media owners in sales, acquisitions, mergers and financial restructurings. Hand spent five years at the Station Resource Group (SRG) helping public radio stations expand services via acquisitions, collaborations and partnerships, leading to the development of Public Media Company.
Hand graduated with a BA in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
